Best Place for a Cross-Fit-Type Workout

Urban Fitness

The first thing you might notice about Urban Fitness, located in the Jack London district, is its open layout and floor-to-ceiling windows, which create an airy, relaxing vibe. But the activities held within are anything but calming; in fact, the hour of drills (which incorporate burpees, tractor tires, and, occasionally, a mallet) will leave you winded, sweaty, and incredibly sore the next day. That's the goal! Founder Noah Kinner leads his three coaches by example, by being friendly, competent, and snarky enough to make you smile after you puke. Not a bad way to get in shape — if you can survive the first month.
