.Best Lounge Ambience

Liege

Tucked among the 19th-century brick and cast iron of Old Oakland is Liege, a strikingly handsome lounge for 21st-century scenesters, cocktail mavens, and sports fans. There’s something to capture the eye no matter where you look: the wrought-wire chandeliers, the handcrafted pine floor, the tabletop replicas of Oakland manhole covers, the Eric Bailey cherry-blossom/sports-car mural, the gorgeous old pressed-tin ceiling. The candlelit nook with sofas, armchairs, and an ethanol fireplace is a fine place to relax and imbibe; the bar itself is all exposed brick and inlaid wood. Two muted flat-screen TVs don’t interfere with the lightly throbbing sound design, and an eclectic array of knickknacks and objets d’art accent the corners and crannies. The carefully crafted house cocktails, meanwhile, are potent, inventive, and delectable. Chess, dominoes, and a photo booth are available when you get tired of lounging.
