.Best Lecture at a Bar

Nerd Nite

Nerd Nite is sort of like the TV show Drunk History except the speakers aren’t completely hammered, and the subjects they lecture about tend to be far more obscure — and to be honest, far more interesting. Some examples of notable and recent talks: Comic Con’s origin story, the history of roller coaster design, baseball in the East Bay before the major league, DNA editing, Emeryville mudflats art, and why the Pilgrims were terrible people. The East Bay’s iteration of Nerd Nite was inspired by Boston’s event, the first Nerd Nite, officially, which began back in 2003. The lecture series shows no sign of losing its geeky audience, and with a region crowded with weirdos and scholars, there’s plenty of people lined up to take the stage.
