Hood Incubator

This is America: Most of the people arrested and convicted of cannabis “crimes” were minorities. Most of the people making money from cannabis legalization are white. This is also America: The Hood Incubator, an award-winning, Oakland-based nonprofit organization dedicated to creating more opportunity for people of color in the cannabis industry. Founded by three Black women (Ebele Ifedigbo, Lanese Martin, and Biseat Horning), the Hood Incubator offers apprenticeship programs and a business accelerator program, and works with Oakland’s Equity Program to ensure that the people most affected by the drug war get a chance to profit during peacetime. “There’s no doubt that Oakland has set the precedent, and cities across the country are looking to us for ideas to use in their own communities,” Ifedigo said in a recent interview. “We want to bring a diverse set of stakeholders together statewide to discuss marijuana equity and why it matters.”
