.Best Homegrown Hip-Hop Festival

Hiero Day

At a time when more and more corporate music festivals are entering Oakland, Hiero Day remains as a constant. A homespun, family-friendly hip-hop festival, Hiero Day keeps its ticket prices affordable and its lineup appealing to a wide range of ages. The festival honors its namesake, the Hieroglyphics crew, with its date (Sept. 3) being a nod to “93 Til Infinity” by Souls of Mischief, a subgroup of Hiero. While the lineup for the seventh year of the festival has yet to be announced, previous years have primarily honored ’90s hip-hop groups, with Hieroglyphics themselves headlining. But Hiero Day typically leaves room to feature rising local acts as well, such as Rayana Jay and Ezale. Come for the music and stay for the good food, interactive activities such as live graffiti, and spirit of local camaraderie.
