Way back in 2011, when the Express first profiled Trails and Ways, the band was tentative, largely unknown, and admittedly more comfortable recording in a bedroom than playing onstage. What a difference three years makes: The East Bay indie-pop foursome has now officially gone from locally famous to blog famous to famous famous based on the strength of its lush, light, world-inflected sound (“bossanova dream-pop” according to the band; “sleepily beautiful,” according to TIME.com). As you read this, the band is crisscrossing the country for an already well-attended and well-received national tour; in August, it’ll play Outside Lands. Suffice it to say these four appear to have gotten over the stage fright.
