For years, those of us who happened to prefer our pizza with a little more, um, girth have had few choices beyond that certain other Chicago-style deep dish pizza place. But then Little Star opened up a branch in Albany, on an increasingly-happening stretch of Solano Avenue, and for the past year has been putting out deep dish pies that blow the competition out of the water. The difference lies in the care that goes into every individual component: the zesty tomato sauce, the cheese, the toppings, and — best of all — the crunchy (never soggy) cornmeal crust. And if you're one of those East Coast purists who scoff at the very notion of a deep dish pizza, we dare you to try Little Star's "Classic" version (with sausage, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers) and see if you don't change your mind.
