.Best Classy Bar Experience

CDP

Few can regularly afford the $165 tasting menu at Oakland’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, Commis. But when chef-owner James Syhabout opened CDP, a bar next door to Commis, he created a democratic opportunity for folks to get a taste of what makes the Piedmont Avenue restaurant so acclaimed. Instead of committing to a tasting menu — or even a reservation — diners can waltz in, grab a seat at the bar, order a fabulous cocktail, and cobble together an incredible meal with two or three items. It won’t necessarily be cheap, but it won’t be anywhere near $165. In addition to being blown away by the flavors, plating, and flawless execution, diners will be treated to the finest, most precise service around in a minimalist space that exudes class — the sort of experience usually reserved for the super-wealthy.
