There are several terrific holiday house displays in the East Bay, many of which are listed on LightsOfTheValley.com, but none are as over-the-top as the menagerie of exhibits in Bob and Sue Widmer’s backyard. Thirty years ago, the Widmers stepped up from standard lights and plastic Santas and began adding a new display each Christmas season. Among the treasures, they’ve created an arctic penguin scene with snow, reindeer coin toss, train town, gingerbread lane, drive-in theater, toy shop, nativity scene, K’nex county fair, and eight-hole miniature Santa’s golfland. You’re invited to walk through and enjoy exhibits illuminated by enough lights to max out the Widmers’ electrical circuit. Check the web site for this season’s schedule (usually the entire month of December, 6 to 9 p.m. each night) and the dates of Santa’s visits, and make this one of your holiday season’s highlights.
