New Normal isn’t even fully off the ground as a brewery yet, but it’s already accrued a large audience as an art gallery. Owner Sam Gilbert is a longtime homebrewer who once ran Brewlab SF out of his former home in the Mission district of San Francisco. New Normal will be his full-blown brewery, with an outdoor beer garden and indoor seating, which will also host rotating art shows featuring local artists. Gilbert likes to experiment with his beers, and relates to artists creatively because of that. While the brewery is still tackling permitting obstacles, he has opened up its large space as a pop-up gallery. Since March, the venue has hosted a series of group shows, many curated by Andres Guerrero of the popular Guerrero Gallery and featuring well-known local artists. Once officially open, the brewery will continue its arts focus with local collaborations in its labels, merchandise, and other beer-related paraphernalia.
