.Best Belly-Busting Brunch

The Sunny Side Café

It’s no shock that the East Bay would be home to an “eco-chef”-run certified green restaurant where just about everything on the menu is organic and specific items are even marked as “Low Carbon Emission” choices. What you might not expect is that that restaurant, The Sunny Side Cafe, would also boast one of the most decadent, belly-busting weekend brunches around. Consider the “Alameda,” one of Chef Aaron French’s signature dishes (also available on the restaurant’s daily breakfast menu): an enormous savory “sandwich” in which ham, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, cheese, over-easy eggs, and Hollandaise sauce get friendly with each other between two slices of French toast. It’s a thing of beauty, and enough calories to keep you going all day long. Not enough food for you? For $29, try Sunny Side’s special breakfast tasting menu for two, a multi-course extravaganza that includes reduced (but not small) portions of nearly all of that week’s seasonal brunch specials. There’s usually some kind of pancake or French toast, a benedict, some sort of scrambled egg dish, and more — not to mention your choice of orange juice or mimosa.
