By the time you've reached the heavy drinking phase of breakup depression — i.e. once you are able to get your weepy self out of bed — it's best to find a watering hole that will accommodate both your thirst and tears. You want a bar that's unpretentious, where you can feel comfortable drinking for hours on end — and can do so without going broke. Plenty of dive bars will do the trick, but sometimes it's best to go where there's minimal risk of running into people you know. Schmidt's Tobacco Trading Co. & Pub in Albany definitely fits the bill. The English-style homey pub, best known simply as The Pub, has been around for decades and is a cozy spot to drown your sorrows with a group of friends or by your lonesome. There are plenty of decent, affordable beers (cash-only) as well as friendly regulars who are happy to chat or play a board game with you (or leave you alone if that's what you prefer). The space feels like a living room, so the social pressure of a typical bar is blessedly lacking — meaning you can slump in a comfy armchair and drink, drink, drink.
