Berkeley Opera Presents Mozart's Don Giovanni

When: Sat., Feb. 20, 8 p.m., Fri., Feb. 26, 8 p.m. and Sun., Feb. 28, 2 p.m. 2010

This is an incredibly rich week. As much as I'm dying to attend Oakland East Bay Symphony's Feb. 26 world premiere of Bay Area composer RebecaMauleón'sSuite Afro-Cubano, I'm pulled to Berkeley Opera's Don Giovanni because, (a), the new location should enable us to hear much more of what makes this company so special, and (b) I've seen Eugene Brancoveanu sing the lead role before, and his voice and characterization are up there with the best. Of course, if you catch the Sunday matinee, you can also attend the OEBS premiere. At El Cerrito Performing Arts Theater (540 Ashbury Ave., El Cerrito) on Friday, Feb. 26, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. $15-$65. 800-838-3006 or BerkeleyOpera.org
