Berkeley Lawn Bowling

When: Sat., June 20, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. 2009

Rather than cut the lawn this first summer weekend, how about playing on the grass instead? The Berkeley Lawn Bowling Club will be rolling bowls all weekend, kicking things off with a free lesson for rookies on Saturday, June 20, at the bowling green (2270 Acton St., Berkeley) from 10 a.m. until noon. The veterans will let you give the bowls a spin, and you don't even have to rent any funny shoes to take part (but make sure that you at least wear flat heels). Lawn bowling is a game for all ages, so you might get paired with a player who's been around long enough to explain why you're not playing bocce ball and why you keep missing the target.
