Berkeley Ballet Theater's Spring Showcase

When: Fri., May 21, 7 p.m. and Sat., May 22, 2 & 7 p.m. 2010

There's something wonderful about student dancers. They are blessed to be pursuing their dreams so young, and though their performances are sometimes less than perfect, they are a joy to watch. Friday through Sunday, May 21-23, catch Berkeley Ballet Theater's young talents, many of whom will pursue professional careers, in an ambitious and varied Spring Showcase. The program at the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts (2640 College Ave., Berkeley) includes the classic The Sleeping Beauty, Sally Streets' Where the Mountain Ash Blooms, a modern piece from the company's own Private Freeman, and a world premiere by former San Francisco Ballet principal dancer Julia Adam. Young fans are invited to the Princess Party after the Saturday matinee to meet their favorite characters and score a goodie bag. Fri.-Sat. 7 p.m.; Sat.-Sun. 2 p.m. $22. 510-843-4688 or BerkeleyBallet.org
