'Beefstro' Pop-Up at KronnerBurger

Before Chris Kronner opened KronnerBurger (4063 Piedmont Ave., Oakland), his updated take on an old-fashioned diner, he spent nearly three years in perpetual pop-up mode, slinging burgers and elegant bistro-style dishes that had nothing to do with burgers — in dingy alleyways, crowded wine shops, and bars and restaurants belonging to other people. It’s good to see that Kronner is keeping that improvisational spirit alive at his brick-and-mortar, especially during the restaurant’s occasional Monday night pop-up dinners. For this week’s edition, he’ll team up with former pop-up co-conspirators from the Ordinaire wine bar and bottle shop for a four-course prix-fixe dinner with optional wine pairing. Kronner is still finalizing the menu, but the meal should start with a raw fish course and a vegetable course, and end with a cheese course. The main event? A rib steak aged for at least ninety days.
