Consider the Montreal-style bagel: rolled by hand, boiled in honey-tinted water, and baked in a wood-burning oven. Here in the East Bay, we're lucky to know this style of bagel at all. In fact, it wasn't too long ago that we didn't have any truly delicious bagels worthy of a colder climate. Five years ago, Beauty's Bagels changed the game. Visit its home in Temescal, Oakland, to celebrate its anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 27, for an afternoon of live music, a slew of local vendors, fun kids activities, and opportunities to win Beauty's swag. Look for festivities in the shop's driveway and space around the back. To eat, Beauty's will dish out chocolate chip cookies and bagel dogs.
