Beats Antique

When: Sat., Jan. 2, 9 p.m. and Sun., Jan. 3, 9 p.m. 2010

Oakland's Beats Antique mashes up an eclectic variety of Middle Eastern grooves, Balkan wedding music, flamenco, gypsy jazz, hip-hop, and dub and blends them with the textures of electronica to produce a mysterious yet strangely familiar sound that inhabits its own timeless geography. Fiddler, producer, and percussionist David Satori, keyboard player and percussionist Sidecar Tommy Chappel, and dancer-composer Zoƫ Jakes freely range through the music of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, combining samples and live instrumentation to lay down a slippery future-funk groove guaranteed to entrance. Beats Antique playsSaturday, Jan. 2, at the Independent (628 Divisadero St., San Francisco). 9 p.m., $13, $15. APEConcerts.com
