Bay Area Vintage Baseball

When: Sun., Aug. 1, 12 p.m. 2010

The Oakland Colonels may be glad to be wearing heavy flannel uniforms on Sunday, August 1, when they travel to Big Rec Field at Golden Gate Park (700 Lincoln Way, San Francisco) for a game against their cross-bay rivals, the San Francisco Pacifics.  The Colonels are part of the Bay AreaVintage Base Ball league (that's how they spelled the game back in the 19th century) and currently reign as defending champions, having copped the crown in 2009. The players, rules, and entire atmosphere are designed to faithfully recall an era when fielders hardly wore gloves, and the batsmen rarely used profanity. Noon, free. ETeamz.com/BAVBB
