Bay Area Open Tae Kwon Do

When: Sat., Aug. 7, 9 a.m. 2010

How many points would you lose if you attacked somebody's face? How many points would you gain if you threw down your opponent by grappling her attacking foot in the air with your arm or hand? All these questions and more will be answered on Saturday, Aug 7, at the Tae Kwon Do Open Championship being held at James Logan High School (1800 H Street, Union City). Audiences can watch -- or, if qualified, sign up for -- one of the dozens of styles of martial arts events, organized by level of expertise. Age brackets extend from under 11 to over the hill. Expect some high-flying action, but no attacking with the knee (that'll cost you at least one point). 9 a.m.; $7, youth $5.

Kibby Kleiman

Price: $7 adults, $5 youth
