Battle in the Bay Tennis

When: Oct. 1-3 2010

In college sports it's rare to see all the local teams at once. This weekend at the California Tennis Club (1770 Scott St., San Francisco), eight of California's top amateur athletic programs will battle it out to be the masters of the net. The Golden Bears of Berkeley are bringing their top men's singles and doubles team, and will be taking on solos and duos from USC, USF, Stanford, Santa Clara, and California squads. The event, which is free to the public, is a round-robin-style tournament that begins on Friday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. and wraps up late Sunday with championship matches between the last two teams standing. This event is considered a significant warm-up for the local men, who hope to get a good bounce into their regular season. BattleintheBayClassic.com
