Bassnectar

When: Sat., May 15, 9 p.m. 2010

Noted rave scene kingpin Bassnectar plays a packed date Saturday, May 15, at Mezzanine (444 Jessie St., San Francisco), with Jel and Odd Nosdam from Oakland label Anticon. Bassnectar, born Lorin Ashton, began releasing pounding dance music with his first LP in 2001, enjoying a steady climb through nine records including 2010's Timestretchand a Coachella date. A tireless road dog and populist, Bassnectar brings an all-singing, all-dancing audio-visual extravaganza that's part dubstep, trip-hop, house, and more. He calls it "omni-tempo maximalism." We call it an accessory to mind-alteration. Fresh off playing the Bowery in New York City, Berkeley's Jel and Odd Nosdam are willing to take more risks. They've alienated more ears over the years with their masterful indie beatcraft. If the openers aren't your cup of beats, hey, it's summer -- go out on Mezzanine's pseudo-patio and enjoy not freezing to death for a change. 9 p.m., $30. www.MezzanineSF.com
