Ballet Folklorico "Quetzalli" de Veracruz

When: Sun., May 2, 3 p.m. 2010

Join the fiesta when the world-famous Ballet Folklorico "Quetzalli" de Veracruz lights up Zellerbach Hall (Bancroft Ave. below Telegraph Ave., Berkeley) with a celebration of the folk music and dances of Mexico. The dancers blaze across the stage in a whirlwind of lightning-fast footwork, brilliant costumes (including those amazing skirts), and unalloyed joy. Every region of Mexico has its own folkloric variations, and while Quetzalli focuses on dances from their native state of Veracruz -- like the bambaand flamenco-influenced huapangos -- they honor traditions from across the country. They bring their own band, too, which thrums out time-honored rhythms and songs on authentic instruments. Bring the whole family to the show on Sunday, May 2; ages 16 and under are half-price. 3 p.m., $24-$38. 510-642-9988 or
