Jazz, Lounge, & Cabaret

B3B4

When: Sun., Jan. 7, 2 p.m. 2018

Jazz is often dictated by the instrumentation in any given ensemble. For Bay Area group B3B4, that would include sax (Tom Griesser), guitar (Scott Foster), Hammond organ (Kevin Gerzevitz), and drums (Daniel Foltz). Their sound is part bop and part blues, with a bit of soul. The mid-tempo grooves are vibrant, with lots of energetic give and take between the members. The four players are all veterans in the local scene, most of whom began their careers back in the ’90s, and have several projects and solo endeavors to their names. The four players come together in B3B4 to highlight something truly special: an exploration of genres and the intricate language that makes up these styles of music; it’s like watching astronauts explore the outer edges of the universe. This Sunday’s show at the Back Room is a celebration of the group’s self-titled debut full-length. Copies of the CDs will be available at the show for a 50-percent discount
