AXIS Dance Company

When: Sat., June 26, 1, 1:50 & 2:40 p.m. 2010

Site-specific dance is about breaking down barriers and transforming the contours of a particular location into a landscape for movement. Famous for deconstructing barriers of all kinds, Oakland's AXIS Dance Company turns YerbaBuenaGardens(Mission St. between Third and Fourth sts., San Francisco) into a stage for its groundbreaking and award-winning brand of contemporary dance, which integrates performers with and without disabilities. Commissioned for the summer-long Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, AXIS' find way to fall features live music composed by Caroline Penwarden and choreography by Sonsheree Giles, who utilizes the park's ramps, berms, and picturesque open spaces as pathways of expression. What better stage for a company that dances without limits? AXIS performs the twenty-minute piece on Saturday, June 26, at 1 p.m., 1:50 p.m., and 2:40 p.m.; free. Join the company for a meet-and-greet at 3:30 p.m. at Jillian's (101 Fourth St., San Francisco). 415-543-1718, Ybgf.org, or AxisDance.org
