AXIS Dance 25th Anniversary

When: Fri., April 12, 8 p.m., Sat., April 13, 8 p.m. and Sun., April 14, 2 p.m. 2013

If you are a bold, astute pioneer of contemporary dance, how do you celebrate a quarter-century milestone? Answer: Pair your company of differently-abled dancers with world premieres from three gravity-defying choreographers to smash expectations all over again. The company's momentum has only grown as national audiences and internationally renowned artists have flocked to artistic director Judith Smith's luminous, we-can-do-anything programming. AXIS' anniversary program on Friday through Sunday, Apr. 12-14, at MalongaCasquelourd Center for the Arts (1428 Alice St., Oakland), features the world premiere of Guggenheim Fellow Victoria Marks' If/Then, scored by Bay Area composer Beth Custer; a second world premiere, by Amy Seiwert, former Smuin Ballet choreographer and current director of her own company, Imagery; and new work from Mills College's Sonya Delwaide, returning for a seventh romp with the company. Fri.-Sat. 8 p.m., Sun 2 p.m.; $10-$22. 510-625-0110 or
