Audio Out Send

When: Fri., Jan. 11, 9:30 p.m. 2008

Oakland's Audio Out Send hasn't had it easy. As impervious to trends as it can manage, and persistently independent (all three releases have come out on its own label, A Flashcard Project), the band has suffered the fate of every critically lauded but commercially ignored art-rock outfit. By design, its subtle, lightly psychedelic sound doesn't fare well beyond the context of an album, and true appreciation requires deep immersion. A noble path, to be sure, but Audio Out Send hedged its bets a bit on last month's sophomore full-length Sharpen the Hours by leaning more toward melodic indie rock. The Bay Bridged presents a local music showcase featuring Audio Out Send with openers the Lonelyhearts and Leigh Gregory Friday night, Jan. 11, at the Hemlock Tavern (1131 Polk St., San Francisco). 9:30 p.m., $7.
