Ashkenaz Dance-a-thon Benefit

When: Sat., Sept. 26, 2 p.m. 2009

Ashkenaz brings back its popular Dance-a-thon Benefit this week, a fund-raiser for the club that was ground zero for the world music movement on the West Coast. There will be food, activities for children, a raffle, and much more, not to mention music supplied by a baker's dozen of the Bay Area's best international and folk music bands including Cajun dance music from the Creole Belles at 3 p.m., Zydeco Flames at 4:30 p.m., Dholrhythms, a bhangra dance troupe, at 9:45 p.m., the recently reformed Zulu Spear at 11 p.m., and the reggae of Sister I-Live closing things up around 1 a.m. The Ashkenaz Dance-a-thon Benefit will fill the air with an international love vibe all day, starting at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Ashkenaz (1317 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley). $20.
