The Oakland Tribune has some new details about the suicide of Ashby Avenue landlord Hassan Bin Ali, and the body that was subsequently found in his building. Looks like Ali may have had problems with the IRS and put the property in his son’s name to get around his legal and tax troubles. The Trib cites anonymous sources, which say that when his son died, Ali may have entombed his body in the building and kept the death quiet to keep running circles around the IRS, but someone got hip and started blackmailing him. That someone may have even called the cops Monday night to spook Ali into paying, which may have sent him over the edge. Pay your taxes, ladies and germs!
