A's Fan Appreciation Tailgate

When: Tue., March 29, 4 p.m. 2011

We aren't going to say that the Oakland Athletics management doesn't appreciate its fans, but a weekday afternoon tailgate party in the parking lot of the Oakland Coliseum (7000 Coliseum Way, Oakland) is a decidedly low-rent way to kick off a baseball season. Contrast the Tuesday, Mar. 29, event -- which precedes an evening exhibition game against the San Francisco Giants -- with the hullabaloo that characterized the spring lift-off of those same Giants. Or rather don't, and instead content yourself with free parking, autograph sessions, and memorabilia sales. And remind yourself that while we can open a baseball season in the EastBay without all that glitz, it would be awfully nice to also open one by beating a team with a World Series trophy. Gates at noon, tailgate at 4 p.m., game at 7 p.m.; game tickets start at $5.
