Singer Molly Arizona met producer Charles Nutrivore while still attending Berkeley High School a few years ago. Their collaboration was an instant success. At their first session, they wrote and recorded the minimalist, feel-good synth-pop song “Thank u 4 existing.” The East Bay-based group’s output has only gotten better as it has veered into much more mature, lo-fi electro-dance jams reminiscent of Sade or Frank Ocean. Last year’s The Paris Tape EP, which was recorded during a week-long trip Arizona and Nutrivore took to Paris, really showcases the duo’s jazz roots while staying firmly planted in down-tempo, future-funk-meets-electro-dance songs. This upcoming show also features Los Angeles indie-rock quartet The Rare Occasions, San Francisco soul group Erik Brock Band, and local Motown-inspired ensemble Mama Bird.
