The recently released fifth studio album from self-deprecating English rock band Arctic Monkeys, A.M., is sparse, bluesy, and full of relatable, heavy-hitting tracks about relationships and sex. There’s an underlying groove and funk throughout the entire album, but it’s still (refreshingly) explicit rock music, even when the quintet starts sounding a bit like The Black Keys. Arctic Monkeys are wildly successful in the UK — they’re the only band to have five consecutive number-one albums on an independent label — so don’t miss this chance to see them at the relatively small Fox Theater (1807 Telegraph Ave., Oakland) this week, playing all the hits. Mini Mansions, an indie-pop trio from Los Angeles, open.
