.Antwon kicks off the Oakland Music Festival

Since being dubbed one of the “25 New Rappers to Watch Out for in 2014” by Complex magazine, Antonio Williams, better known as Antwon, has established himself even further in the underground hip-hop scene. The San Jose native began as a “bedroom rap” artist known for his unfiltered, between-the-sheets lyrics. In his 2013 single, “Dying in the Pussy,” Williams rapped, That punani gets potent, making me lose my focus/That wet and wavy hair, while my dick all in her ocean. Since then, his music has evolved into more experimental territory while his vocals have retained a raw quality. Double Ecstasy, which Antwon released in 2016, takes listeners on a “wild night out,” with stories of an adolescent’s party life, sexual encounters, explicit drug use, and other details most would leave unsaid. On Friday, Sept. 29, you can vibe with Antwon in real life at the Starline Social Club, where he’ll be performing with indie rapper Juiceboxxx and kicking off the Oakland Music Festival.

Friday, Sept. 29, 9 p.m., $10, Starline Social Club, 2236 Martin Luther King Jr. Way Oakland, Facebook.com/starlinesocialclub
