Antsy McLain & the Trailer Park Troubadours

When: Wed., Dec. 28, 8 p.m. 2011

Get a jump on the New Year's Eve madness with Antsy McLain and his Troubadours. Some may peg the band as a comedy act, but its razor-sharp musicianship is evident from the first note as the musicians belt out honky-tonk rockers, Tex-Mex rave-ups, Southern boogie, and cowboy jazz. McLain is a charismatic frontman who actually did grow up in trailer parks throughout the South, allowing him keen insight into the working-class life he sings about with plenty of compassion and humor. McLain's between-song patter is hilarious, but his soulful vocals will send chills down your spine. At Freight & Salvage (2020 Addison St. ,Berkeley) on Wednesday,  Dec. 28. 8 p.m., $20.50, $22.50.
