Another Innocent Person Dies in Police Chase

A 25-year-old innocent bystander was killed and her young son severely injured in Oakland after police chased a driver who had allegedly been driving "erratically" and he slammed into the mother and her child. Oakland's Acting Police Chief Howard Jordan said the tragic death of Marquita Bosley could have been avoided if the getaway driver Steven Reed had only pulled over. But a friend of Bosley's told the Chron that she believes that police are partially to blame for Bosley's death for conducting a high-speed chase in a residential area near an elementary school.

OPD is conducting an internal probe of the incident. This is at least the third innocent bystander killed this year following a high-speed police chase in the East Bay. Clearly, local police agencies need to rethink their high-speed pursuit policies, before more innocent people end up dead.
