Women in positions of power hold a special place in literary history, and Princess Pari Khan Khanoom Safavi is no exception. The daughter of the Shah of Iran in the late 1500s, this excellent royal example formed a bond with a gelded-by-choice palace eunuch, an unobserved keeper of secrets and information, in an attempt to take over her father's empire after his death. Will they succeed? San Francisco-based Anita Amirrezvani will reveal the fictional outcome to her reality-based novel when she reads from Equal of the Sun on Saturday, July 19, at Mrs. Dalloway's (2904 College Ave., Berkeley). 7:30 p.m., free. 510-704-8222 or
