When: Sat., Sept. 6, 7:30 p.m. 2008
Finally, sixteen years after her heralded Covent Garden debut, soprano Angela Gheorghiu gives her first, long-awaited Bay Area recital. Accompanied by no less than the San Francisco Opera Orchestra conducted by Marco Armiliato, la Gheorgiu's concert, jointly presented by San Francisco Opera and Cal Performances, includes two arias by Puccini, a classic knock-out by Verdi, three Italian songs, and others from France, Cuba, and Romania. If we cheer loudly enough, maybe this gifted soprano will give us a taste of the Mimi she'll be singing for San Francisco Opera in November. At Zellerbach Hall (Bancroft Way at Telegraph Ave., Berkeley) on Saturday, Sept. 6. 7:30 p.m., $35-$100. CalPerformances.org or 510-642-9988.
