Descended from a long line of Cajun and Creole musicians in his Louisiana birthplace, accordionist and singer Andrew Carriere now calls the EastBay home. To kick off the new year, Carriere has assembled a band of some of the best local Cajun and zydeco musicians -- including fiddler Marty Jara and pedal-steel player Billy Wilson -- for an all-ages dance concert at Ashkenaz(1317 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley). There's a free Cajun dance lesson at 8 p.m., followed by hard driving classic music from the old honky tonks, along with popular two-steps and waltzes. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 8 p.m., $10.Ashkenaz.com or 510-525-5054.
