Andrew Bird started playing the violin before entering grammar school, going on to get a violin performance degree from Northwestern University. After gaining recognition as a member of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, he went on to start his own swing revival band, Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire. After he discovered the loop pedal, he performed solo for a spell and began incorporating elements of electronica into his sound. Without a regular band, he’s able to switch line-ups at will, following his music wherever it takes him. The songs he wrote for his new album, My Finest Work Yet, were inspired by the current political landscape. The arrangements are more rock than usual, but the lyrics remain steeped in the dark humor that’s become his trademark.
