Anchee Min and Lloyd Lofthouse

Her best-selling 1994 memoir Red Azalea astounded American readers with its frank depictions of growing up amidst China's Cultural Revolution. Painter/actor/author Anchee Min has since written several historical novels, including Becoming Madame Mao, a fictionalized biography of Mao Zedong's wife and Gang of Four leader Jiang Qing. At Clayton Books (5433D Clayton Rd., Clayton) on Saturday, Feb. 29, Min presents a dramatic costumed reading with her husband Lloyd Lofthouse, author of My Splendid Concubine. 7 p.m. ClaytonBookshop.com
