Anat Shenker-Osorio

When: Thu., Nov. 1, 7 p.m. 2012

Oakland-based political communications expert AnatShenker-Osorio believes that the language politicians use to describe the economy is the basis for our distinctly American desire to "keep the economy happy" -- to treat the economy as a sentient being we must satiate at all costs. In her first book, Don't Buy It: The Trouble with Talking Nonsense About the Economy, Shenker-Osorio suggests that we stop thinking and talking about the economy as if it will respond, and just get back to thinking of it as something that should work for us, not the other way around. She'll shed light on her findings at Diesel (5433 College Ave., Oakland) on Thursday, Nov. 1. 7 p.m., free. 510-653-9965 or DieselBookstore.com
