Cal Shakes artistic director Jonathan Moscone follows up his terrific production of George Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman last year by tackling another great Irish wit of the Victorian era, Oscar Wilde. A trifle more substantial than his comedic confection The Importance of Being Earnest, Wilde's 1895 play An Ideal Husband focuses on a scheming society dame who threatens to reveal a secret that might ruin a prominent member of Parliament's reputation -- and more importantly, disappoint his wife's strict standards for an ideal husband. The particularly promising cast includes returning Cal Shakes favorites Julie Eccles, Stacy Ross, Elijah Alexander, L. Peter Callender, Nancy Carlin, Joan Mankin, Danny Scheie, Delia MacDougall and Sarah Nealis as well as Center REP artistic director Michael Butler. July 2 through July 27 at Bruns Amphitheater (100 Gateway Blvd., Orinda).CalShakes.org or 510-548-9666.
