When: Tue., May 6, 8 p.m. 2008
Utah Phillips is up and about his NevadaCity home following hospitalization in February for a longtime heart condition. But after covering two million miles in fifty years of one-nighters, the musical rabble-rouser and self-proclaimed "Golden Voice of the Great Southwest" can no longer tour. Following last week's New York celebration (with Pete Seeger and Dar Williams, among others), on Tuesday, May 6, his local stomping ground, the Freight & Salvage (1111 Addison St., Berkeley), hosts a benefit concert honoring the champion of hobo culture and workers' rights, with his pals Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin, Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum, Eric and Suzy Thompson, plus Larry Hanks and Ray Bierl. They'll sing Phillips' songs and tell their own stories about his fabled life. 8 p.m., $18.50, $19.50. FreightandSalvage.org or 510-548-1761.
