All Good Things

Rated R 101 minutes 2010

Privileged people riding roughshod over everyone else. In Andrew (Capturing the Friedmans) Jarecki’s first narrative feature we may sympathize with moody rich kid David Marks (Ryan Gosling) and his efforts to start a new way of life with his bride (Kirsten Dunst) -- but that’s before we see the other side of him. Able acting by all concerned, especially Frank Langella as David’s billionaire New York landlord father, but even a well written sordid story is sordid in the end. You’ll want to wash your face and hands. The final quarter veers off into wild, uncharted territory. Jarring as it is, it’s the most interesting thing about this soap-operatic crime yarn. Written by Marcus Hinchey and Marc Smerling, based on a true story. (101 min.)
