An estimated five million Americans live with dementia. But as we see in this gratifying documentary by Michael Rossato-Bennett, their minds and hearts can be touched. Evidently all it takes is an iPod loaded with music that is meaningful to the patient, and voila! the patient opens up. Neurologist/author Oliver Sacks and musician Bobby McFerrin are among the talking heads explaining the whys and wherefores of Music & Memory, the non-profit org that discovered the music therapy, which does things no pill or medication can do. It’s a moving experience to watch it at work (73 min.).
