Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem

Rated R 2007

The best thing about Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem is that, unlike the original 2004 match-up of iconic sci-fi movie monsters, this one is proudly rated R. This means more explosive chest, head, and alien action, which, at this point in the two series’ checkered lives, is pretty much what it’s all about. If you’re into specifics, the warring species land on a rural US town where common folk with no ability to comprehend multi-alien invasions must find some way to survive the mayhem. There are some creative scares this time around, but the small-town setting’s role in classic-monster-movie heritage is never properly exploited and “predaliens” with dreadlocks are so laughable that the movie immediately boxes itself into the fun, but dismissible B-movie category (86 min., 2007).
