Alice in Wonderland

When: Fri., May 11, 7:30 p.m. and Sat., May 12, 2 p.m. 2012

Lewis Carroll's surreal classic is about to get a little bit trippier thanks to noted choreographer Robert Dekkers, whose balletic reimagining for kids receives its world premiere on Friday and Saturday, May 11-12, at the Lesher Center for the Arts (1601 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek). Whimsical enough for children and hip enough for their parents, this hour-long Alice follows the title character on an inward quest for her own identity (there's no stranger trip than that). Eclectic Bay Area composer Daniel Berkman contributed the original score, and Marlowe Bassett and Jan Berletti dreamed up the vibrant Victorian-Steampunk costumes. Christian Squires and Rachel Weiner, who dance for Dekkers' contemporary dance company, Post:Ballet, lead the cast of pre-professional students from Contra Costa Ballet. Fri. 7:30 p.m., Sat. 2 p.m.; $19-$37. 925-943-7469 or
