There’s no farce quite as farcical as a British farce. Steve Coogan has a field day as the ultimate no-talent, all-ego local radio talk show personality, who gets mixed up in a hostage situation at the station and rides the crisis all the way to its illogical conclusion, with one eye on his career and the other on a mirror. Director Declan Lowney makes full use of the splendid script -- with gags by Coogan, Armando Iannucci, Peter Baynham, Neil Gibbons, and Ron Gibbons – plus Coogan and Colm Meaney, as desperate out-of-fashion DJs, drive the tense standoff through the roof, very briskly. You’ll have to see it twice to pick up all the snotty pop-culture jokes. A winner (90 min.).
