City Council incumbents Doug deHaan and Marie Gilmore easily won reelection, garnering 31% and 29%, respectively, in a four-person race. The top two vote getters won the election. The Don Perata machine had hoped to unseat deHaan with school board member Tracy Jensen, but came up short. Jensen got 23% of the vote.
Also, Measure P, which would double the city's property transfer tax, appears to be headed for a victory, 50.7 percent to 49.3 percent. However, it's a safe bet that the Alameda County Registrar of Voters still has huge numbers of absentee and provisional ballots yet to count.
