Al-P of MSTRKRFT

When: Fri., Dec. 9, 9 p.m. 2011

Even if you're not familiar with MSTRKRFT's music, the typographical and phonetic qualities of the group's name (it's pronounced "master-craft") give some indication of the sensibility behind it. Members Jesse F. Keeler (aka JFK) and Alex Puodiziukas (aka Al-P) both hail from the Canadian electro-pop and dance circuit. They collaborated for a long time before forming MSTRKRFT six years ago, releasing a spate of high-energy industrial laptop hits with equally exciting music videos to accompany them -- often featuring video-game motifs, robot animation, or highly sublimated softcore porn (like the borderline grotesque imagery in "Easy Love"). Last February, JFK did a set at San Francisco's popular Mission District dance club Mighty, and now the venue wants to even the score by presenting Al-P as a solo act. He'll be in good company, with support from DJs Nisus (of blasthaus) and Sleazmore (of Lights Down Low). At Mighty (119 Utah St., San Francisco) on Friday, Dec. 9. 9 p.m., $12-$15. Mighty119.com
